IRISH SPRINT & STRIDE In 1981 several members of the San Francisco civilian and military community decided to start a team event. Members were from the Military, active and reserves, and the San Francisco Police and Fire Departments. The Commandant of the Coast Guard, Admiral Thomas H. Collins and the Commandant of the Marines, General Mike Hagee, subsequently and separately authorized the Commandants' Trophy. A copy of the trophy is on display at the United States Coast Guard Headquarters in Honolulu.
